ROCKOLLECTIONS: CALLING ALL ANGELS PT.3

As we continue with our Rock & Roll musical exploration of Angels, I have to explain the beginning.
Frequently, people outside will wave, make faces or something, or Engineer Ken will say something into my headphones just as I am about to open the show in an attempt to make me laugh and screw it up.
That was the case here. See what I have to put up with, lol?
Being a man of limited ideas, since we opened Part One with a Calling All Angels, I thought we would do it again.
This time by a group called Train.
There are a few people I tell when I am thinking about doing a Theme Show.
Sometimes they have good, even brilliant, suggestions.
Sometimes horrid ones- AAHHHHHHHHH!!!!
And I keep it small because when they do suggest something and I DON’T play it, they may be insulted and I have to explain why I didn’t.
Not enough time mostly, didn’t fit in anywhere, or it just plain sucked.
This time, so many of them mentioned a song I had not the slightest intention of playing, I had to re-think it.
Kind of glad I did play it now, cause it did bring a warm memory of simpler times.
We will discover that Angels are not just for crackpots- there are many stores devoted to them, and prestigious universities teach courses in them, including Harvard Divinity School and Boston College.
Got a cover of an oldie to play you may not have ever heard, by John Lennon from a posthumous album released in 1984.
Interestingly, Angels can be found anywhere.
Knocking at your door, living right next door to you, even in a Broken Radio!
We’ll take a look and listen to that phenomenon.
One more episode to go, and 2 things to mention.
If you are interested in that terrific Wim Wenders movie, Wings Of Desire, a friend of mine named Matt pointed out to me that U2’s video for the song Stay (Faraway So Close) is an obvious homage to that flick.
Watch the video and you will get a tiny taste of Wings Of Desire.
And that next episode will be my 300th podcast.
Seems real nice to me that it comes in the Finale of remembering a loved one!

Welcome to my 15th episode on this site, which is called
“Upside Down”,  with one of my favorite songs redone and
done well. I learn to respect Mary J. Blige after singing
with U2. I always thought she was just another one of those
artist that would have pass me by, because she was no Etta James
or Aretha in my book.  Boy!  I was wrong. She has a great
voice and presence

Ok!  -  I know some of you are pretty sick by now of
Bad Day by Daniel Powter, but back in 2006 is when I
put this compilation together it was one of my guilty
pleasures  from Pop & AAA Radio. Thanks to radio over
playing it, and American Idol back in 2007. I kinda of cringe
when I hear this song today. In any case it was on the original
list for this compilation and that’s the way it it’s gonna stay.

RockRoll360 #003 - The Unexpected Pt. 1

 

Welcome back Podsters - Now that you know what Underground Radio was like back during the late 60’s and passed on to the early 70’s from the previous Podcast.

 

 The influence that radio WBCN Boston  & WNEW in NYC had me changed and loved this type of radio from Top 40 straight to FM Underground in one big giant step. I always wanted to be in radio ( Programing ) but things hasn’t worked out the way I planned. Therefore I really never fulfilled my dreams.

 

For the longest time I always made Cassettes/CD compilations from 1972 on. It always had the mix of old songs with the current new music - In the words of  Mike Pell “The WORLD is our playlist- Enjoy”  Don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t mix the old with the new. A great exclamation of this type of radio can be found in detail on Mike Pell’s ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE FALL OF FM RADIO Chapter 6.

 

You gotta listen to The Ballard Of The Sandman. Great stuff !  

 

The closest I landed in radio was when I was a on air as DJ at Franklin Dean Jr. College in Franklin, Mass., one hour a week. Had quite a following I might add.  Who knows? This podcast might lead to bigger & brighter things. ( I can dream can’t I )

 

Again I can never say enough to Unc & Mike   Thanks for sharing the site with me. Hopefully I’ll will make you happy with these shows and hope to continue for a long, long, time.
