RockRoll360 #011-Moonage Daydream - Pt. 1

Moonage Daydream 1

Shame on the people out there who thought that David Bowie
performed “A Girl Like You”. Edwin Collins is the artist.
Fact is - this song is a tribute to Iggy Pop, chronicling a tale of the
singer’s experiences of meeting an extraordinary girl.
Also the song samples the drums track of Len Barry’s 1965 hit 1-2-3.

Also featured on this Episode are great tracks by Alicia Keys and the
LONG version of one of my favorites tracks that came from 2008.
“I Will Process Your Heart” by Death Cab For Cutie.
Oh ! by the way that’s Marilyn Monroe speaking about her undergarments
from the movie ” The Seven Year Itch”. In case you didn’t know.

Happy Memorial Day Everybody !

Please don’t forget our Veterans who died for your freedom this weekend.

So enjoy and Rock On !!!

A GIRL LIKE YOU - EDWIN COLLINS
MOONAGE DAYDREAM - DAVID BOWIE
PORK AND BEANS - WEEZER
HELLO IT’S ME   Intro by Bob Dylan  - THE NAZZ
THE DISTANCE - LIVE
CORRINA - TAJ MAHAL
UNDER THE BOARDWALK - THE DRIFTERS
IF I AIN’T GOT YOU - ALICIA KEYS
I WILL PROCESS YOUR HEART -DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE
MAGIC - CARS

Sound Bites include:::::

Hallelujah……. CD Intro - Sound Bite from  The Firesign Theatre
WPXC  102.9 ( Cape Cod Rock ) - Radio I.D.
Forward into the past ( Long Version ) -
Sound Bite from The Firesign Theatre
When it’s hot , I keep my undies in the icebox -
Sound Bite from the movie  The Seven Year Itch

ROCKOLLECTIONS: A TOWN WITHOUT PITNEY PT.2- CONCLUSION

Well here is Part Two and conclusion of Gene Pitney.

But first, I promised a good friend of mine I would put in a plug for an Art Gallery Exhibition.

The artist is named Evie Tirado and she is VERY good.

So if you can get to Brooklyn, her showing is at Shoptalk & Art Gallery, 35 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn, NY- it is across the street from BAM (the Brooklyn Academy of Music), and runs from April 23 through April 30.

I highly recommend it!

We will start this concluding episode with a song that at the beginning always reminds me of Down In The Boondocks. See what you think.

We’ll talk about Pitney’s Rolling Stones connection, his influence on DAVID BOWIE (particularly on Changes) and play songs you may have forgot existed.

One that hits home for me on this unsettled night is I’m Gonna Be Strong.
Also one called Just One Smile, that I think I remember being done by someone else, but can’t put my finger on it.

If you know, please write me here.

It’s a real pretty sound that oddly co-existed with all the psychedelia of 1967. Probably why I love that year so much- anything was acceptable.

He died of natural causes at the age of 66.

A little young for those natural causes if you ask me.

We will go out with an unreleased Rolling Stones track from 1964, where he purportedly plays the piano, and Phil Spector is in on the session too. Some real nice jamming!

And another Stones connection is he had a fling with Marianne Faithfull.

Way to go my man Gene!!!

Mike
