PEACE ON EARTH, GOOD WILL TOWARD MEN…

ROCKOLLECTIONS: THE ROCKOLLECTIONS 2007 CHRISTMAS PARTY PT.2

Christmas is a lot about traditions.
And a few have sort of settled in here on the show- they just happened.
One is every year we play Run Rudolph Run by a different artist or group.
Who is it this year? You’ll find out in the beginning of this chapter.
Then there is the playing of the annual Beatles Christmas Messages, originally sent only to their fan club members beginning in 1963- before they were really known over here.
We have been keeping a close 40 year pace with them, so this year it is 1967, and my favorite of all of them.
1967 was a year of creativity and experimentation, and not only in music.
The Beatles worked hard on this one, no simple thank you’s, but planned out and very funny skits.
Even a Christmas song- in fact the whole thing is Called Christmas Time Is Here Again.
I really like the Quiz Show bit in this!
Then a surprise I am very proud of.
I will say nothing more than that I combined some very famous movie brothers with Bruce Springsteen!
One of the most fun things about all the shows I do is playing songs you may never have heard, or have forgotten about.
Well, Bobby “Boris” Pickett of Monster Mash fame died this past year, and it seemed only right to play a Christmas song by him. Did you know he even recorded one? Hit # 30 in 1962.
Then a song that brings me back to being in a department store with my mother around 34th Street in Manhattan (that Herald Square we heard about previously).
I could only have been 3 or 4 years old, still had to hold Mom’s hand.
I heard this song and flipped over it.
So it is probably not only the first Christmas song I fell in love with, but no doubt the first ANY song I felt that way about with my little pea brain, lol!
My first conscious choice in the world of music, unaffected by any other family member, WHOA!
Listen and you will hear why it would appeal to a runt like I was.
Finally, that song we will end this chapter with is by Sarah McLachlan. I never said so.

It is precisely one week ’til Christmas.
And time for the Rockollections Christmas Party 2007.
It should be pointed out that our Christmas parties are like all our other shows- a journey- and you are certainly invited for the ride. And to hear the best and most interesting things I can find!
I have a great rocking opening set, as we step headlong into the annual party.
The set will end with the great Dion DiMucci- the quintessential New York Rock & Roller.
And that got me thinking…
