New Music Monday

Monday, Monday. We can trust that day. It’s new music Monday and we begin with an artist sent to the Longtown Sound by alert listener and recording artist, Joe Lynch. Thanks to Joe, Longtown Listeners and subscribers have a new interesting piece of true Americana to investigate. Visit Gary Myrick on MySpace and learn more. Enjoy The Ghost Of Elvis

Then, Josh Ritter offers up, To the Dogs or Whoever.
Josh Ritter’s highly acclaimed CD, The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter, is available, check the links, iTunes and net locations.

Joe Colledge is one great guy and a singer/songwriter at the top of his craft. His CD “Table For One ” is single after single, all “A” sides. Check out Joe Colledge and Burden.

My friend and fellow ear-picker, Jersey Joe, turned me on to the John Evans Band and So Long, last Fall, Here they are from the PMN just great music!

Another cut from Shoe Suede Blues and it’s Peter Tork singing For Pete’s Sake.

Then, on to Taylor Hicks with a cut, My Friend from the CD , Taylor Hicks. The song is long and not likely to air on terrestrial radio across the country, but, never fear, Uncleshag has it here for all the good folks and WLSO.FM friends at the Taylor Hicks forum, Taylor Made Online. Check the sidebar at WLSO for dates and catch Taylor LIVE at Myrtle Beach House of Blues - Wed, Aug 22, 2007 08:00 PM. Here’s the ticketmaster link

We flesh out the show with the great Ray Price, celebrating the coming of 60 years of singing, songwriting and entertaining. Here’s to filling requests from Samantha and Chloe. Enjoy Ray Price and My Shoes Keep Walking Back To You, Ladies!

Now, there is only one Bo Bice and the song selection today answers a question asked of Ol’ Uncleshag recently. This is Uncleshag’s favorite of all the Bo Bice tunes in the WLSO.FM play list. Cinnamon and Novocaine is Bo at his early, laid-back best. Southern Rock is the theme of his newest work. RAWK ON BO! Look for a new Bo Bice CD coming in September!

Finally , taking us home is a great Brooklyn, NY singer/songwriter I know you’ll want to know more about. His CD, This Is The Place is on my player in the boat and in the van. Just Great Music! Enjoy Chris Ayer and Left To Lose

1 I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise;
2 I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness; for you have exalted your name and your word above everything.
3 On the day I called, you answered me, you increased my strength of soul.

5 They shall sing of the ways of the LORD, for great is the glory of the LORD.
6 For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly; but the haughty he perceives from far away.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies; you stretch out your hand, and your right hand delivers me.

Longtown Sound 166 - Shoe Suede Blues, Taylor Hicks, Kris Bell Band, Alison Kraus, Brad Byrd, Eli Reed and The True Loves

166

Longtown Sound 166

Friday’s here and we’re rolling on toward the weekend and the show opens with Peter Tork and Shoe Suede Blues with “Ain’t Your Fault”. Yep this is the all time great Monkee member with a clean blues style. Visit Peter today here. A shame Sir Paul McCartney couldn’t be as original and out there. Well, there is still time for more from each. Then again, we never know. Do we?

Nobody told me Taylor Hicks new CD was this good. Whoa - Taking no chances and adding a cut titled “Dream Myself Awake” Look in the sidebar for the CD and get it. Caution - this is addictive music. If not using protection listen at you own risk. Enjoy!

Kris Bell has been recording and Kris sent this song through My Space good friend, indie music promoter and all around great person, Parcedia, especially for the Longtown Listeners - with what I believe to be a kid in the mix - and it’s just excellent! “Destined” is the title and please visit Kris Bell on MySpace here. Kris is a great guy, former lead guitar with Bo Bice and SugarMoney. Kris Bell Band is appearing all over so check out his dates and check out his music.

We turn to a dedication and prayer request. The Scott family are asking prayers for their eleven year old son with brain cancer. Believing that we all are held in the Palm of His Hand, the Longtown family prays that God’s will be done and Grace and Peace be given the family at this time. Here’s Alison Krauss & Union Station from the CD - Now That I’ve Found You: A Collection singing, “Palm of Your Hand”.

Brad Byrd messaged me in MySpace and inquired as to my well being and I am glad to say, ‘all ready, steady, go’ these days, thanks, Brad! So, from The CD Ever Changing Picture here’s Brad and “Better Days”

Today’s show is rounded out by a great musician, vocalist, and Texan, Mark Wayne Glasmire with “We’ve Just Begun” and taking us home is Eli Reed and The True Loves with their latest single, “It’s Easier”. Y’all have a great weekend and join me for the Saturday Doo Wop Show!

Longtown Sound 165 Elvis Presley, SwampdaWamp, Jr.Walker and the Allstars, Taylor Hicks, Josh Woodward, Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band, Bo Bice

165

Longtown Sound 165

The Thursday show is a bit different. We open with Jim Brooks greeting the listeners and in the background a salute to The King, Elvis Aaron Presley.

Has it been thirty years, my friends? Sam Cooke asks, “Is a change gonna come?”

The change is here with SwampdaWamp and this great Southern Rock and Roll Blues band tells the story of “The River.”

Elvis Presley returns with a snippet of “He Touched Me”

Taylor Hicks picks up the homage to EP with “Blues and Soul” Does TH TCB? You be the judge and let me know!

If there was ever a perfect song, this to me comes mighty close. It’s Jr Walker and the Allstars - What Does It Take (To Win Your Love).

Rounding out the show is one of my favorite songs 0f ‘07, Josh Woodward and “Fit For a King”,

Then a group featured three weeks ago. Welcome to Ryan Shupe and the Rubber Band and “Would You Love Me”

We take the long slow ride home with a rockin’ Bo Bice and a prayer for cooler weather and relief from the dog days that are upon us. It’s Bo Bice and “Merry Christmas Baby”. Visit Bo Bice fan Base.

Enjoy Thursday’s Top Shelf Tunage!

Monday, Monday. In God and Monday we trust. Uncleshag had a great weekend, and hopes you readers, listeners and email subscribers did as well. In South Carolina, the heat, repressive as it was for six days of 100+ F, gave the suffering folks a break with clouds and a taste of moisture in the midlands and coast. One could set a match to the garden and mercifully burn it off; it’s cooked, baby! Like the music in today’s Longtown Sound, just as hot and sizzlin’ as the fresh blacktop out on Highway 5. Doo Wop Saturday

I think it would be great to have another musician in the White House. Truman played piano, as did Nixon, LBJ caused dogs to howl when picking beagles up by the ears- what a hoot, loved that old man. Clinton blew the sax and for our next election, I am considering Mike Huckabee the bass player. Former Gov. Huckabee already has his own band. That could cut entertainment costs around the DC circuit. Yeah, boy.

In the Saturday Doo Wop show, Uncleshag welcomes special guest Mike Pell from the Hoosier Mama Institute. Mike is a musicologist and world rewound ‘golden era of rock’ authority.

Thursday was to be Another Day. I don’t know why, but it’s been moved to Saturday, the original Another Day. In it’s place find an eclectic mix of fine tunage. Not all songs today were ear-picked by Uncleshag but all live up to the Longtown Standard of Excellence. Enjoy the show and plan as I do for a great weekend beginning at lunch time Friday.
