ROCKOLLECTIONS: JUNE IS NATIONAL RIVERS MONTH PT.3

mp_rivers_3.jpg

Continuing on…
National Rivers Month is a time to enjoy all of the things that rivers bring to our communities. Rivers provide drinking water, recreational opportunities, environmental ecosystems and wildlife habitats. Rivers have also been used as a source of food, for transport, as a defensive barrier, as a source of hydropower to drive machinery, and as a means of disposing of waste.
But don’t pee in the River, lol!
After our opening song, a bit of humor from Jackie Vernon.
There’s a name…he was a standup comic known for his deadpan delivery.
He is also known for being the voice of Frosty the Snowman in the special that is run on TV every year at Christmas.
Following that, the most perfect song imaginable to follow Vernon’s story!
Then I thought I would play some songs about real, actual, existing geographical Rivers.
And I will be choosing them from Rock, Folk, Soul and anywhere else the current carries me.

Mike

Great set for part 3 Mike. You picked up one more of my river songs (Take Me To The River by The Talking Heads). I’ve always liked that song, though I’m not a fan of Talking Heads.

On the John Phillips song, I love the backing vocals…very cool.

How could I forget The Doobie Brothers and Black Water? That should have been on my list but wasn’t.

And that Jerry and The Pacemakers song is awesome. I’ve heard it but never new what it was about. I guess this is the first time I actually listened while I listened.

One more part to go and still 3 songs on my list haven’t been played, or the band I have in mind.

    Dear RJ,
2 down and 3 to go eh?
HAD to play the Talking Heads, and a great version by them, the best.
If you hear the John Phillips song again, listen for that brief moment that seems like it doesn’t belong in there- where there is a sudden appearance of sonic electric drums that come crashing in and just as quickly are gone.
That Gerry and The Pacemakers song IS awesome.
And you should always listen when you listen…SAY WHAT?, LOL!
    Mike
